Week of December 14th, 2020 - Game & Entertainment Rooms

Top 5 Design Posts of the Week

December 20th brings us International Games Day, which actually has some rich history.

"Games Day was created by the British game production and retail company, Games Workshop, which started out producing more traditional games such as backgammon and later moved on to fantasy universe games, such as Warhammer. This day of carefree whimsical frivolity was created rather abruptly in 1975 when another games convention got canceled, and the gap thereby created needed to be filled. The very first of these soon to become extremely popular events took place in London on December 20, 1975."

Seeing as life in 2020 is looking vastly different from 2019, we thought this would be a perfect way to showcase some of our favorite modern-day game and entertainment rooms, and to do justice for Games Day. We pulled together something for everyone in our 5 picks of the week, and whether your game room looks like a ping-pong table and a popcorn machine in the corner of your basement somewhere or a full theater with surround-sound, we've got you covered with everything in between. Check out our top 5 selections and let us know your favorite in the comments below!

1. All for One and One for Game Rooms

50 Cool Game Room Ideas for Entertainment, HomeDesignLover

Our first pick takes us all over the world and showcases some truly stunning selections of game and entertainment rooms, from pool-tables to flat-screens and everything in between! Take a look through some of the coolest game rooms we've seen, and notice the detail, such as the backsplash featured above. It goes to show something as simple as having an elegant backsplash can really elevate the design scheme, of course the room itself is already stunning but the backsplash is the glue behind it all. Other notable mentions include Cross Lake 4 and Mediterranean Tuscan 8502... Just wait until you see that pool table! Let us know your favorite game room design in the comments below.

2. The Fun Continues, No Matter the Age

Packed-With-Fun Game Room Ideas for All Ages, HGTV

HGTV shows that game rooms don't have to be *intimidating* with a dark color scheme and cold marble floors like some other selections. Instead, they devote game rooms for people of all ages to enjoy, and whether you're 6 or 60, you'll feel like a kid no matter what while enjoying some of these rooms' features! Shown above is a Newport Beach home featuring a game-room overseeing what appears to be a small marina or bay, and features floor-to-ceiling windows (our favorite) and a few gaming amenities for all ages - pool table, shuffleboard, cozy-seating for card games and even a chessboard! take a look through their gallery and enjoy the fun and games!

3. Epic Entertainment

30 Game Room Ideas For an Epic Entertaining Space, House Beautiful

We promise not every game room has to have a pool table, even if our pictures all feature one. However, for our third selection this week we couldn't pass-up showing off this stunning game room, featuring design insight on a multi-function room, and the importance of having versatility within design. Whether you're up and shooting the cue ball around the pol table, enjoying the comfortable couch and a move, or playing squash (that's right, those are no windows but the entrance to an indoor at-home squash court), this room has it all. Check out House Beautiful'scomplete selection of game rooms in the link above and let us know which one is your favorite!

4. Never Leave Your House Again

Check out the rest of their 19 game-room inspirations and let us know your favorite in the comments below!

5. Ultimate Entertaining and Gaming Spaces

26 Game Room Ideas for the Ultimate Entertaining Space, SpaceWise

Keeping things light and fresh, SpaceWise brings us their complete guide to entertainment and gaming spaces from all over the globe, and world of style. For example, as mentioned previously, we love seeing game rooms with a lighter color scheme, appearing more inviting rather than intimidating. If technology or extravagant features aren't your forte, then so be it! As long as you have a place where you can have some fun, let go of work and get lost inside a video-game or a game of ping-pong, that's all that matters. It doesn't take a big budget to have a baller game room, it can be as easy as starting with a couch and ping-pong table inside a garage or basement - and boom! You've got a game room.

With the importance of staying home and doing due diligence to slow the spread of COVID-19, why not think about finally setting up a game room so you'll enjoy the house a bit more? Whatever it is, stay safe and we will see you next week for another top 5 design!
