Top 3 Tile Trends from Coverings 2021

For thirty years, Coverings has been the preeminent event for the ceramic tile & natural stone industry in North America. Visitors from every facet of the tile & stone industry find that Coverings is the one event that drives their success, year after year. All in one venue, see thousands of dazzling products, connect with suppliers from around the globe and discover ground-breaking techniques, tips, and tricks. If it's new in tile & stone, it's at Coverings.

July 7-9th, 2021 Architessa's team attended Coverings - a tile and stone trade show. Although many foreign vendors did not participate because of COVID-19, our team saw thousands of new tiles. Here, we'll share the top 3 trends seen at the show.

1. Zellige Tiles

Zellige is the top tile trend as far as we've seen! What is a zellige tile, you ask? And how do you pronounce it? Zellige is pronounced zil-EEHJ; these tiles are traditional handmade pieces of art dating back to the 10th century. Zellige tiles still dress the architectural and historical sites of Morocco and Southern Spain. Their unique imperfections make them a timeless classic. You'll see more square and rectangular Zellige tiles in bathrooms and kitchens if you already haven't.

Shop our new FEZ and MANTA (pictured above) collection if Zellige is the look you're wanting!

2. Porcelain Slabs

Controversial opinion: porcelain slabs > marble slabs. People are 1. starting to see better porcelain marble-look slabs produced and 2. realizing the easier-to-maintain qualities of porcelain tile. It is no longer kitsch or in poor taste to choose porcelain over marble. Especially now that technology has made it possible to replicate marble's covetable natural veining and coloration.

Shop our ELEVATED collection (pictured above) for stunningly large porcelain slabs!

3. Hexagon Tiles

Larger format hexagon tiles are an ever-popular trend that is here to stay for both floors and walls. Wood-look, concrete-look, patterned, solid, matte, glossy, textured, metallic, porcelain, ceramic, marble, you name it. We offer a massive selection of them and it just keeps growing.
