Looking back on 2017, it was a good year for tile and for Architectural Ceramics. Each January, AC has a company-wide meeting, where we reflect on the previous year and create goals for the new year. We'd like to let you in on a bit of what went on. Here is the Best of 2017, inspired by our annual corporate meeting instead of popular products and tile trends.
Yes, we're proud of the products we offer as a member of the tile industry, but we're also proud of our company's growth throughout 2017. We can better serve you and we can strive to be our best as a tile company, because of our growth in four core values: character, community, innovation, and results that matter.
Character
Architectural Ceramics is without a doubt, a company full of characters. Reflecting on 2017 we posed the question to ourselves, what does it mean to have character? By definition, it's a blend of traits and features that create an individual thing or person.
It's easy to apply that to tile. We offer various tile characters: porcelain, ceramic, glass and stone. Each play a different role or function within a design. A trait of porcelain tile, for example, is its durability. As a result, a great feature of porcelain tile is that it makes an excellent flooring option in commercial and residential spaces.
But, what role do each of us at AC play? From management to sales, or from customer service to the warehouse, each team helps to carry out our day-to-day processes. More importantly, each team helps to carry your tile project from conception to install. Whether we're interacting with fellow co-workers or clients, it's important to act with integrity and trust.
"We need to start the year off strong..everyone has a role to get us there." -Trey House, AC President
In late 2016, AC added a new role and member to our team, with President Trey House. Day-to-day, House oversees operations and drives us all to improve our processes and results across all departments.
House quickly made an impression throughout 2017 because of his leadership and positive attitude, helping us to realize our core values as a company. "It took a lot of work by a lot of people," House says of the core values, "so it is very encouraging to see everyone embrace them and the way they will shape our culture."
Community
At Architectural Ceramics, we're a tile company made up of caring and capable people. It's our mission to give homeowners and trade professionals assistance in specifying appropriate products for their space while maintaining the service, dependability and thoughtfulness of a family owned company.
It's also our mission to give back. In 2005, CEO Betty Sullivan founded the organization Washington Cares, to do just that. At the time, Washington Cares gave relief to Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans.

This past year, mother nature struck again when Hurricane Harvey flooded areas of Houston. Washington Cares and Architectural Ceramics sprang to action again, collecting donations and hand-delivering supplies like food and diapers to local area church, the Triumph Church Nederland.

Our outreach doesn't stop with the U.S., but helps other countries as well. Puerto Rico suffered from Hurricane Maria this past year. Washington Cares, Architectural Ceramics and our clients came together as a community once again to aid in relief. We love the ongoing support from you to help those affected to feel new again.
Innovation
In today's day and age, everyone wants to know what's new: new iPhone apps, new trends, or new food spots. At AC, we constantly ask ourselves, what's new? What new tile products are out there, what's the newest tile trend, or how can we do business in a new way to better serve our clients?
When it comes to new product, we strive to find quality brands for our special order collections, and innovative products for our in-stock collections as well.

In 2017, the cement tile trend hit the design scene in a big way. Architectural Ceramic's sales associate and designer, Casey Terrell asked herself, how can I use a trendy material for my client in a new way? The answer was simple: go vertical. Here, the bold and graphic hand-glazed cement tile that would typically be used on the floor, took on a new application as a kitchen backsplash.

How can we do business in a new way to better serve you? By opening new showrooms that give you better access to our sales staff and products.
AC's Vienna showroom staff, ready to assist with your tile project.
In 2017, we were proud to open a new residential showroom in Vienna, Virginia. The new space allowed us to reach clients on the other side of the 495 beltway. It also allowed us to showcase product in new ways through flooring installations and floor to ceiling board displays.
Along with a new residential showroom, AC also opened a new commercial showroom taking on new territory in Atlanta, Georgia. Our commercial sales team services Atlanta, Baltimore, the DC-metro area, Philadelphia and Richmond. Our projects from coast to coast include hotels, fitness centers, community living centers, and more.
Results That Matter
While sales results keep our doors open, or allow us to open new showroom doors, it's the people that matter most. Architectural Ceramics has been in business since 1985 and we've built some amazing relationships along the way.
It's the relationships with our vendors, contractors, designers and clients that keep us going. From 1985 to 2017, we have clients that have been with us from the beginning. Moving into 2018, we're excited to continue those relationships but also to reach out and create new ones as well.
"Let's carry our positive energy from today to our work and beyond," House said animatedly during the corporate meeting. "We are planning for growth and have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to start the year off strong...everyone has a role to get us there."
So come see us in 2018. When you work with us here at Architectural Ceramics, we want you to love the result. From your initial first meeting in one of our showrooms to the final install in your home. Do you love the result? Do you want to come back? We hope the answer is always yes.
