Top 5 Design Posts of the Week – Sports in Design

Top 5 Design Posts of the Week – Sports in Design - Architessa

As the United States pulled away from the Tokyo 2020/2021* Olympic Games with a total of 113 medals, including 39 gold, they cemented their position as one of the top-performing athletic countries globally, with a shocking total of 2,941 medals between the winter and summer games. In honor of the 2020/2021* Summer Olympics ending (and being one year closer to the following games!), we're highlighting some interior design inspirations all about sports and athletics. From local stadiums to the Tokyo Olympics showcased on the global stage, we've got your inner athlete covered with this week's top 5 design inspirations. As always, we love to hear your feedback and always appreciate hearing your thoughts in the comments below!

1. Nationals Park, Architessa

With locations in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, Architessa is fortunate enough to provide quality building materials to a vast network of clients, including Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals Baseball Team! The PNC Diamond Club within the stadium showcases sleek porcelain floor tile, metal furnishings including chairs and tables, and wooden accents tying it all together. If you're ever at the ballgame and have a chance to visit the PBC Diamond Club, you'll be well-versed in their exquisite tile selections provided by Architessa!

2. Working (Out) From Home

17 Home Gyms That Will Make You Want To Work Out, House Beautiful

If going to the gym isn't your style, or you're making a conscious step away from public spaces due to new COVID-19 variants, working out from home is possible! While some have the space and budget in mind for a home gym with all the furnishings, all it takes is a little creativity, some space to move around, and simple workout accessories to get started with a home workout. For example, use milk jugs filled with sand instead of weights for a cheap replacement, and bodyweight exercises are always beneficial. Of course, some are fortunate enough to have space and high-tech equipment at their disposal, as we're showing off in this home-gym showcasing brought to us by House Beautiful. Please take a look through their 17 home-gym setups and let us know which one is your favorite in the comments below!

3. Working Out-Side the Box

28 Creative Home Gym Ideas, the Spruce

As we mentioned above, it takes a little creativity for some to find a suitable spot to have some home workouts. By doing so, you can transform unused space in your own home and create your sanctuary for getting active whenever you want! We loved the "Modern Farmhouse Home Gym" shown above, as a bump-out left residents with unused space, perfect for a slight transition into a home gym! And it's still an ideal space for relaxing with the ample sunlight and calm décor. Check out the rest of these creative home gyms in the link above!

4. Gym Transformation

Old gymnasium transformed into lofty apartment in Amsterdam, Dezeen

While this is a reverse transformation from this week's theme, we highlighted this stunning project. From being a gymnasium to transforming into a chic family-of-four residence, "The Gymnasium is shortlisted for apartment interior of the year at the Dezeen Awards and was the winner of the Dezeen Awards 2020 public vote for the same category," according to Dezeen. The only original element of The Gymnasium that remains is its existing steel structure, hidden initially behind a flat ceiling. Now exposed, it offers a contrast to the home's furnishings, and while the wooden floors might remind you of a basketball court, they're anything but. Check out the whole project in the link above, and let us know your thoughts!

5. M&T Bank Stadium, Architessa

For our final featured inspiration of the week, we're circling back to one of our own sports projects we were fortunate enough to be able to work on: another local team, the Baltimore Ravens! M&T Bank Stadium showcases Architessa's SILK STONE and NATIVE ROCK flooring, which accents the walls and front desk accordingly. While the slim slab on the desk appears magnificent at first glance, it might take a double-take to see the Raven staring right at you, just like the image featured above the desk! Another team close to our hearts; if you're ever at Raven's stadium, be sure to find this fantastic work of tile and take a picture!
